Disturbing News

As if we needed another confusing acronym, the current administration is attempting to pass legislation called “Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act,” or “UIGEA” for short.  It sure seems like they have more pressing matters (ahem, our FREAKING ECONOMY) to attend to, instead of further regulations around Internet Poker.  Passing legislation like this, only months before Obama takes office is reckless and sneaky.

Already it’s a felony to play Internet poker in Washington State.  That’s right, if you’re caught playing poker on the Internet, you’ll get to spend time with other felons:  you know, bank robbers, murderers, and child molesters.  Don’t believe for a second that this has anything to do with protecting vulnerable citizens from the evils of gambling.  Washington State has several tribal casinos with a strong desire to remove competition.

The fact is, poker is a game of skill; anybody with a 401(k) is gambling with significantly more money than the average Internet player gambles.
